A DAY AT THE PALACE & AN EVENING AT THE OSCARS
WEDNESDAY 2ND JUNE 2021
Approximately 25 members were entertained by Gillian Walnes Perry M.B.E
on her day at Buckingham Palace receiving her MBE & her evening
at the Hollywood Oscars.
Gillian gave us an interesting description of the build up of her visit to the palace to receive her MBE with superb pictures of her outfit with her delightful fascinator all shown virtually by Zoom. She said her award was presented by HRH the Prince of Wales and she said she felt very nervous as one had to step back after receiving the award at the same time as do a curtsey. She felt she might fall over! She also gave us an interesting break down of heraldry within the UK accompanied by pictures. She then continued with the evening at the Hollywood Oscars saying what a magnificent experience it was. She was thrilled that the Anne Frank documentary which she had been involved with received an Oscar. She said she was cheering so loud when it was announced. Pictures were shown of the delicious after-party buffet showing canapes made in the shape of Oscars. After the talk members were able to ask questions. Many members have sent in wonderful written reviews and this is very much appreciated.
BAGELS & BACON ( SECOND HELPINGS )
MONDAY 14TH JUNE 2021
Over 35 members attended the Bagels and Bacon (Second Helpings) by Jeff Rozelair.
We welcomed members and guests, and we reminded all that this was a return visit from Jeff having been enjoyed by everyone in February 2021. Jeff gave an interesting and amusing talk about his life in the East End of London after World War II. He showed many pictures of people he knew and close relatives all accompanied by music clips of well known old London songs. At the close Jeff answered questions posed by the members. Many members commented that as a result of his talk in February they had purchased his book “Bagels & Bacon" which they enjoyed. Jeff was thanked for his entertaining talk and then the members were reminded of all of forthcoming events. It is necessary to book early for events which can now be booked on line using the online booking platform “Try Booking“. Other methods can still be used and it is still possible to pay by BACS & cheques. The event closed with everyone being thanked with the hopes that they would meet again shortly.
