Winterslow & Firsdown WI News

Like everyone else, the ladies of Winterslow and Firsdown WI have really missed their monthly get-togethers. The Committee and members have worked really hard at keeping the spirit of the WI going and staying in touch. Their Secretary, Anita, has been sending out a regular newsletter with news, jokes, quizzes and general chit chat via email and delivered by hand through the doors of those without computer access.

They held their Committee meetings via Zoom and then branched out into monthly members meetings, where the technology was mastered with the help of Chris Walker's husband – they exchanged news, had quizzes and competitions and, of course, each had their own tea and cake! They had a flower arrangement in a teacup competition, all of which looked lovely, just a shame they could not see and smell them.

More and more members are taking the plunge with Zoom and it is lovely to see everyone. They set up our own Facebook page where photos could be posted and ideas exchanged. And their President, Barbara, never missed a member's birthday and personally delivered a bunch of roses to each birthday girl.

In August they had the excitement of actually meeting up – outdoors of course, bringing their own chairs and picnic. Luckily the weather held, although it was a little breezy, and a good time was had by all. Just having a chat face to face was a great tonic! Their table tennis club has started up again in the village hall, although social distancing means only singles can be played, but it's great to have a bit of exercise. They were hoping to hold another outdoor meeting for September.
